Great Country Drives in the Toowoomba Region

There’s nothing more relaxing than jumping in the car and taking a drive through the country.

The Toowoomba Region is home to some beautiful scenic locations filled with history and a story to tell. We have some spectacular locations to tantalise tastebuds with delicious cuisine and wine, let you turn back time at museums and spoil the senses as you immerse yourself in nature. We’ve picked out a few of our favourite drives for you to enjoy, and there’s plenty more to be found at www.tr.qld.gov.au.

Farmers Country Drive

Enjoy a day trip from Toowoomba through the townships of Maclagan, Haden, and Goombungee. Explore the Australian Army Flying Museum at Oakey, the Muntapa Tunnel near Peranga, take a walk through the remnant rainforest at the Palms National Park near Cooyar, enjoy the country hospitality of Goombungee, and visit Rangemore Estate and 2nd 2 None wineries.

High Country Drive

This half-trip takes you to the historic and picturesque Spring Bluff railway station, then through Highfields to explore its boutique shops and historical Pioneer Villages. Step back in time at the Carbethon Folk Museum in Crows Nest, then enjoy a leisurely drive back past the Crows Nest and Ravensbourne national parks and lakes of Cressbrook and Perseverance.

Open Plains Country Drive

This day trip to Millmerran takes you through some of Australia’s most productive agricultural land. Stop in at Pittsworth and visit the Pioneer Historical Village and the restored Tattersalls Club Hotel. Whilst in Millmerran, enjoy the view from the Commodore Peak Lookout, take a look through the Millmerran Museum and the National Trust listed All Saints Anglican Church in Yandilla.

Steele Rudd Country Drive

Enjoy a half-day trip that takes you through the heart of ‘Steele Rudd’ country. Stop off at the Bull & Barley Inn at Cambooya, then visit Steele Rudd’s Shingle Hut at East Greenmount. Then travel onto the township of Nobby where you can find Rudd’s Pub and the Sister Kenny memorial. Experience the townships of Clifton and Allora or take a short detour and spend some time at the Darling Downs Zoo at Pilton, or visit the Preston Peak Winery.
