Outback Adventure Made Easy!
If you want an inspiring adventure in the Queensland outback with everything taken care of, Outback Pioneers has you covered.
Whether you’re an old hand at outback travel or keen to get to know our beautiful heartland better, meet the award-winning local family in Longreach who’ve scooped major tourism awards for their experiences, holidays, short breaks and accommodation.
Outback Pioneers reflects all the passion of the Kinnon family, who’ve lived the outback stories as graziers for their entire lives
They are keen to share their outback with those who prefer to avoid the long drive as well as those who relish the thought of packing up the car, caravan or 4WD and heading west.
Weekender Out West for the Perfect Getaway
Outback Pioneers Weekender Out West short break makes the perfect introduction and a real change from city and coastal life. Everything is arranged to make sure you experience the best of the region and sleep in pioneer-inspired, 4-star comfort. The itinerary is timed to fit with flights from Brisbane on Friday and returning late Monday but is equally appealing to those who like driving themselves and experiencing the bush towns along the way (no 4WD needed).
The Best of Longreach and Winton
From the moment you arrive in Longreach, you step into a different world where the past and present mingle in spacious landscapes under big skies.
Your accommodation at The Staging Post in the heritage heart of town is pioneer-inspired, quirky and outback luxe. You can also expect hearty outback food, including a Stonegrill Experience your first evening, and an itinerary of memory-making moments as you relax into the outback spirit.
There’s a day in the atmospheric outback town of Winton to visit the Australian Age of Dinosaurs museum and the Matilda Centre plus lunch at the famous North Gregory Hotel where Banjo Paterson first performed Waltzing Matilda.
In Longreach you’ll ride the Cobb & Co stagecoach through the bush, experience an old time tent show, and visit the Qantas Founders Museum and Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame.
The highlight for many is the Starlight’s Cruise Experience absorbing all the sights of an outback sunset as your historic paddlewheeler or riverboat gently navigates the Thomson River. On the riverbank, you enjoy a stockman’s dinner and bush entertainment by the crackling gidgee wood campfire under the awe-inspiring, star-filled sky. It doesn’t get more outback than that!
Australian Heritage and History
Throughout it all you’ll become more familiar with the stories of our pioneers and outback life, told by your hosts who live and breathe it. Expect plenty of fascinating yarns and that irreverent outback humour!
There’s time to walk through Longreach too and appreciate the town’s heritage buildings, including The Station Store emporium.
There really is no better way to fit the huge outback into a short holiday!
A Longer Stay for the Bucket List
If you want to jump in the deep end with a longer holiday, Outback Pioneers also has the 6-day Unleash Longreach Holiday, which includes the Nogo Station Experience and Winton.
Many people choose to combine this 6-day holiday with a Spirit of the Outback train journey from Brisbane or Emerald, which is one of Australia’s iconic long-distance train trips. The scenery shows the true diversity of our state as you leave the coast behind and travel through remote ranges and across the plains.
See the Outback Pioneers website for the start days of each holiday and full details of the itineraries, inclusions and experiences. There are still options left for 2024 or start planning for 2025!
