Sharper Hearing, Sharper Mind
A hearing aid does more than helping you hear better. In fact, this little device has a potential to help you prevent mental decline, according to a study published in the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry.
It is a well-known fact that hearing aids keep elderly with hearing difficulties socially engaged by providing an important connection to the world around them. The team of scientists at the Columbia University from New York conducted a study to inspect other benefits of these devices.
The study included about 100 participants aged between 80 and 99. Of the total number of participants, 34 of them regularly used a hearing aid, and they scored much better on mental function tests comparing to individuals who didn’t use the hearing aid.
The research showed that mental function is directly associated with hearing ability. In fact, using a hearing aid can help prevent the development of dementia by keeping elderly with hearing loss engaged in communication and conversation.
More than half of all people older than 75 have hearing loss, but only a small portion opt to use hearing aids. Due to the fact they improve social, functional, and emotional problems and help keep the mind sharp, you should get your hearing aid today.
