St. Lucia – The Downsizer Dream

When it comes to downsizing, Australian retirees are looking to use their time and money on upsizing their lifestyle. St. Lucia, a suburb located within the city of Brisbane, Queensland, has become a beacon to those ready to enjoy this new phase of life. Southwest of the CBD, St. Lucia is a prestigious residential suburb that is a stone’s throw away from all the amenities you could want.

Many retirees are looking to make their new homes a peaceful retreat. St. Lucia is largely populated by families, so you will be happy to have your adult children and grandkids visit. It can also be described as trendy and stylish, with the nearby University of Queensland attracting younger residents, who in turn invigorate the community.

Central Location

St. Lucia is a quiet and reserved residential area, with the added benefit of being close enough to the Brisbane CBD so you can enjoy a day or night out anytime you want. With the Brisbane River cradling it on the north, east, and south, as well as plenty of green areas, you’ll be wanting to have a walk and picnic every day.

Easy to Get Around

Now you have the time and money to go out and enjoy yourselves, you don’t want to waste it driving and looking for a park. Going into town has never been easier, with the large range of public transport services getting you from point A to point B and everywhere in between. In addition to regular bus schedules, a NightLink service was introduced, placing security onboard all services at night on Fridays and Saturdays, allowing you to travel in peace and comfort. The ferry, or ‘CityCat’, is also a great way to travel, with the journey part of the excitement. For those wanting to get active while getting around, you can always choose to ride your bicycle, and of course, there are always taxis and hire cars available.

Medical Facilities

No one likes to get sick, but when the unfortunate happens, it is always good to know medical help is readily available. There are the Wesley Private Hospital, Toowong Private Hospital, Mater Hospital Brisbane, St. Lucia Village Medical Centre, as well as services inside the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. With specialists located across Brisbane, you will never have to travel too far for help.

A Great Day Out

Current and future residents are eagerly anticipating the extension of the Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, but that doesn’t mean the current model is lacking in any way. Less than 10 minutes from St. Lucia, the centre contains office suites, Brisbane City Council Library, Australia Post Office, banks, medical centres, and other health services. While the women are out shopping, the men can head off for a game of golf at St. Lucia Golf Links. This public course takes you to another world – totally different from the bustling city, with its peaceful and relaxing grounds and atmosphere. Or why not jump onboard the CityCat and venture into the Cultural Centre, South Bank, or Brisbane City Shopping Precinct?

Residences for Retirees

A predominately residential area, it is no surprise that retirement communities have begun taking advantage of the prime real estate. With boutique blocks of apartments equipped with modern appliances and designs, scooter-friendly grounds, and security so you can travel knowing your property is safe, all that’s left is to choose a moving date.

St. Lucia has been attracting Aussie retirees for years, enticing them with a sophisticated and connected lifestyle. If you want to live the downsizer dream, there is no better place to look.
